Bath Spa, 11 miles
Bath is the largest city in Somerset named after the Roman Baths that were built there and is a world heritage site.
It is home to an Abbey that hosts a spectacular exhibition of diptychs by Sue Symons. The West front includes sculptures of angels climbing to heaven on two stone ladders, representing Jacobs Ladder.
The Pulteney Bridge offers a lovely picturesque scene with the River Avon cascading through the old town.
A recent shopping area has been built between the train station and the old centre. The Victoria park offers a wonderful grassed area and botanical gardens within walking distance from the centre.
